Kev Unitt's new book - "It Never Happens For People Like Us" is available for pre-order for release on the 30th August.
LAST has mentioned the book before . Kev has now sent a finished version of the book to LAST and bribed us with a no expenses paid trip to Loch Lomond for a good review.*
I just said to Kev I'm not sure what to write in some ways. There's so many quotes I want to put here or screenshots but I really don't want to ruin it for anyone, #spoiler. Kev used to be a journalist with the distinction of being banned from the press box by Micky Adams. It's quite an emotional rollercoaster, just like the season was. Like many of us, he talks about feeling emotional at promotion with thoughts of people who aren't with us anymore and that sets the tone for the book to come which treads a perfect line between emotional, serious and light hearted. I'm still laughing at a photo of a very forlorn looking Sky Blue Sam in a Santa costume captioned "For my money Sky Blue Sam has not been quite the same since the Mounjaro".
The book follows the season month by month, interspersed at appropriate times with something on players, such as the chapter "Sign The Contract" about Rushgoalieworth when he breaks the longest time for not conceding. Topically Kev states
"He has said he wants to stay, as they all usually do, but let’s hope it proves the case. I can think of no one more worthy of us smashing our transfer record on than him."

On through the journey we go and the early 2026 dip in form, loss of top spot and general panic. Then the 3-1 spanking of Boro and the signing of Frank the Tank in a chapter titled "Tank and the Turnaround" to get us back on course, not to mention my fave photo of the book by Dani! Theres a lovely few pages on Rudoni, charting his progress since Wimbledon to become a star of the Premier League next season whilst Kev thinks better of hanging around school playgrounds to swap his Panini stickers.

Contributions from Andy Turner follow along with a big nod to Mark Robins and Matt Grimes - "He could well go down as the single most important signing in the clubs 143 year history". Its difficult to argue with that in terms of where the club could potentially be in a few years time and the part Grimes has played in getting us to this point.

Then of course we get to Blackburn away and THAT Bobby Thomas goal which sealed promotion and the celebrations that followed. That's covered with some full page photos, Lampard quotes and reflections. It's spine tingling reliving it.
Of course we still have the title winning game and celebrations to go as well as the bus parade and Memorial Park.

The book goes into over 200 pages with words from Liam Kelly, stats from Jim Brown, a postscript and an interview with (a) Doug King.
Honestly, this is 208 pages of words, photos and memories. 208 pages of someone giving their heart and soul to make this book, all for 25 quid. Its an absolute no brainer, one to pick up read and flick through again and again. Cheers Kev for all the effort, it was worth it!

*LAST has just realised that a no expenses trip is actually a rubbish bribe.
