While We Sing Together - Documentary on YouTube

31/08/2026, 09:38:54 BST

The first 30 seconds of While We Sing Together had me hooked, those old programmes bring back so many memories, backed with a gorgeous version of the Eton Boating Song. So we had a chat with Kieran and Jamie to find out more.

Hi both! So what inspired you two to make the documentary?

Funnily enough it was after the FA Cup semi-final in 2024. Jamie was living in Valencia and we just thought it was such a typical Coventry story encapsulated in one game. That’s when Jamie called me and something started to brew slowly.

How long did it take to make from start to finish?

In November 2025 we first sat down and said we need to make something. Our interviews were shot on the 11th January at the Four Provinces pub on Allesley Old Road. From there we slowly collated more over the course of 8 months. Remarkable really as me and Jamie had other commitments to do so it was very much a weekend and evening job we had with the film.

It was nice to see Barry Quinn, how did you get him involved?

Oddly enough I used to work with SoccerRockz in Coventry during Covid which is ran by former Cov City academy captain Tom Cudworth and met Barry around that time through Tom. So me and Barry have been Facebook friends for years so was a simple Facebook message. I think between asking and the interview it was about 2 weeks.

I love the start with all the old programmes and the Eton Boating Song. Who is playing on that? It’s a great version.

That would be local Coventry singer Diarmuid Gaffney and mixed by Daniel Barrie. Again I think from me asking Diarmuid to do it and it being recorded was a matter of days. Let’s just say watch this space for where you’ll be able to find their version soon.

There's some great memories from people on the documentary. Are they people you already knew?

Steve Adams is a family friend of Jamie’s and I’ve known Tommy for pretty much my whole life. Jamie knows Sarah through his in-laws so it all came together quite nicely.

Any thoughts of a sequel when we qualify for Europe this season?

Let’s not get ahead of ourselves! Having a bit of a rest now and we will see what happens down the line.

Prediction for this season?

Kieran - It will be difficult but I do think we will stay up. Even if it’s just about!

Jamie - I think we'll stay up, and everyone's nerves will be tested to the limit as is the Coventry way.

Who's your favourite all time player?

Kieran - Recency bias but would be Hamer. I went to pretty much every home game of the 22/23 season and he was the best player by a country mile

Jamie - My dad used to tell me about Willie Carr when I was young and I liked to imagine what the players were like then. It was before the Internet so you had to imagine. Other than that I always love it when good Irish players are in the team. (LAST - Willie Carr was one of my first words!)

What's your favourite City match?

Kieran - Also some recency bias with a backstory.

Coventry 4-1 Fulham in the championship in 2021. 1-0 down at half time I saw my cousin in the concourse and he said “we will win it 3-1” I remember him running down to my seat when the 3rd goal went in and it was just a great day.

Jamie - Arsenal 1-1 Cov, not because of the game but because it was the first time I travelled to London - the feeling as a kid of travelling with family and friends to another city for football is something that's hard to beat. Noel Whelan scored for Cov and Bergkamp for Arsenal. That's a treat for this season, seeing Cov take on world-class players week in week out.

Villa or Leicester?

Kieran - Currently answering these questions as Villa are 4-0 down to Brighton so I’ll just say that I don’t concern my self with a team at the bottom of the premiership let alone a team 2 leagues away. (LAST - Perfect answer!)

Jamie - My Nan was from Birmingham and supported Villa so I've always had to respect Villa because you didn't dare annoy my Nan. As for Leicester, one of their fans swung a punch at my dad once as he walked my little brother to a game. (The guy missed and fell over!). So I've never had a lot of love for Leicester.

Terry and June or The Good Life?

Kieran - I’m 29 so I’ve flipped a coin. Terry and June (LAST - Great flip)

What's the biggest animal you could singlehandedly clingfilm to a lamp post?

Kieran - Hmmm I’d say a llama  (LAST - now that we'd pay money to watch)

Cheers guys!

Have a watch everyone, I can't recommend it enough!
