A Hull Perspective

28/08/2026, 04:34:18 BST

LAST caught up with Sam from Hull City Fan Central to get the lowdown on Hull - promotion, beating Manure first game, new signings, predictions and the eternal question.......... what the biggest animal he thinks he could singlehandedly clingfilm to a lamp post.

Hi Sam. So, promotion must have been a surprise?!

Promotion was definitely a surprise, at no point during the season did we think we would finish in a playoff spot let alone go to Wembley and pull of the win. Going into the season with everything that was going on due to the financial situation at Hull and being placed under a transfer restriction, we were feeling optimistic with a 10th place finish in the league, but that group of players last season shows how much a team who are there for each other are better than a few stand out players.

Enjoy turning over Manure in the first game?

I don’t think I have come down from the high of beating Man U on opening day especially in a dominant manner. We saw such a brilliant tactical plan from the team and felt the true force of the sold out stadium which was bouncing from pre-match to post-match.

Who are your new signings? Early impressions?

Hull City have done a fair bit of business heading into this season and are expected to do a bit more especially looking at attacking players. Some of the new arrivals who have stood out already are Elliot Stroud, Nobel Mendy and Konstantinos Tzolakis, Tzolakis who was brought over from Greek giants Olympiacos had a brilliant Premier League debut against Manchester United on Saturday and truly proved how pivotal he will be to Hull City’s survival hopes this season.

Prediction for the match?

It is going to be a tough match especially with it being the first Premier League match in Coventry for 25 years, plus it will be important points for both sides in their hopes for Premier League survival. With that being said I will be happy if Hull City can get anything from this game and so I am going to predict a 1-1 draw. I feel it will be a cagey affair with nothing too much to separate the sides, but we will have a big task on our hands to hold Coventry out for 90 minutes.

Think you'll stay up?

The optimist in me is saying ‘yes 100% we are staying up’ and after that huge 3 points on opening day that is the best way to start going towards that goal. It is going to be a long season of ups and downs but I feel when the curtain comes down on this season Hull City will have done themselves proud and silenced all the pundits by staying up.

Who's your favourite all time Hull player?

My favourite Hull City player of all time has to be Giovanni, mainly for his heroics during Hull City’s first Premier League appearance back in 2008, every Hull fan remembers Giovanni against Arsenal and Tottenham that season

What's your favourite all time Hull match?

It might be recency bias talking but the Play-Off final has got to stand out as one of the best Hull City days of my life. A shoutout goes to our biggest Premier League win, when we managed to score 6 past Fulham in a 6-0 home win, that was a good day.

Any advice for City fans when we come to Hull?

One major thing ever Coventry City fan needs to do when the come to the MKM Stadium, get your hands on our famous stadium food, there is always plenty on offer and your tastebuds will be forever grateful.

Terry and June or The Good Life?

The Good Life for me.

What's the biggest animal you could singlehandedly clingfilm to a lamp post?

I reckon I could get a badger cling filmed up, anything bigger I would struggle to get the cling film wrapped around before it had clawed through it. (LAST - brave choice)

Thanks Sam, much appreciated! We'll be putting Sam's post match reaction on the post match round up.
