Match Preview - Coventry City vs Newcastle United

11/10/2026, 10:39:59 BST

City have lost their last 7 games home and away to Newcastle and our previous win was in the last millenium! 3 points nailed on, I can feel it.

City Team News

This is how City lined up against Forest and would SFL change a winning team?

Well Yirenkyi played as a right wing back due to MVE's injury. SFL said in his press conference that MVE could be available if he makes it through the rest of the week's training.. That would change things as he would surely return meaning either Yirenkyi misses out again or SFL drops Onyeka (he won't be dropping Grimes). I'm assuming SFL will stick with 3 at the back after the formation gave City their first win.

I can't see any other personnel changes unless someone has returned from international duty with an injury. The other injury updates that SFL gave were Eccles is a few weeks away, KKH is back in training and HWWW won't be available until after next month. Amenda the Defender is also still out whilst Awoniyi serves the last game of his suspension.

Newcastle United Team News

The Toon hope to welcome back three or four players for Monday night after suffering something of an injury crisis before the eternal international break.

Joelinton (groin) and Nico Gonzalez (concussion) are among those expected to return, while Amar Dedic (hamstring) and Will Osula (foot) have also resumed training. However, Dan Burn (ankle) and Anthony Elanga (thigh) both missed a behind-closed-doors friendly against Middlesbrough and remain doubtful.

Jacob Ramsey (thigh), Lewis Miley (knock) and Tino Livramento are also fitness concerns, while goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen has been ruled out for approximately two months with a hamstring injury.

Player Links

Jacob Murphy is the only player in either squad to have featured for both clubs. He played 42 games for City in 2015/16, scoring 10 goals. Since then he has played 271 games for Newcastle over 2 spells. A few players have made the move between City and the Toon, Darren Huckerby and Micky Quinn moved from Newcastle to City. Gaël Bigirimana moved to Newcastle and then back again whilst Craig Bellamy made the trip north after City were relegated.

Other players who have played for both clubs include, Stuart Pearce, Kenny Sansom, Gary Caldwell, Brian Kilcine, Leon Best and Adam Armstrong.

Chris Waddle apparently had an unsuccessful trial at City while working at a sausage factory before signing for Newcastle!

LAST Prediction

LAST is backing City to win this 2-1. The CBS will be rocking after the Forest result, under lights and in front of the TV cameras. City will go 1 up through Rudoni, Newcastle will equalise before Yirenkyi scores in the last 10 minutes to secure cult status.

LAST Prediction : 2-1
Huwligan* Prediction: 1-1
ChatGPT Prediction : Coventry 1–2 Newcastle. "I'm going for a narrow Newcastle win, although I think Coventry have a genuine chance of taking something from this game."

* "Huwligan" is Huw, 7 1/2 year old son of Greg "Sweet of the Match" from LAST 1.0. More to come from him, believe me!
