City last hosted Newcastle on 9th December 2009 in the Championship, the 2 clubs going in opposite directions over the next few years. Newcastle came away with a 2-0 win following goals from Ameobi and Ranger.

The season before also saw a Newcastle win in the League Cup but in a 3-2 thriller. Scott Dann opened the scoring at the wrong end on 21 minutes before James Milner made it 2-0. Clinton Morrison pulled one back on the stroke of half time before Dann made amends on 90 minutes from a long throw. Michael Owen scored the winner on 97 minutes but there was still time for City to hit the woodwork. Newcastle would be relegated at the end of the season.

Before that we head off to the Premier League and the season City went down in 00/01. City again lost 2-0 early in September via a penalty from Shearer and a goal from City old boy Kevin Gallacher.

City's last win anywhere against Newcastle was on 16th October 1999 at Highfield Raod when they ran out 4-1 winners. Palmer, Williams, Keane and Hadji did the damage. Happy days! Paul William's goal was an absolute rocket from 40 yards whilst Warren Barton was sent off at 2-0.

That was revenge for City as they had lost the previous home game 5-1 in a Highfield Raod horror show a year earlier. City actually went 1-0 up through Noel Whelan but then Dabizas, Shearer, Speed, Glass and Shearer again routed City.

This weeks programme image comes from 14th Jan 1996. City went down 1-0 to a 44th minute Steve Watson goal.

Going back further there's some great footage from early in the FA Cup winning season in September 1986. You can see a very sparse looking Kop (attendance - 11370), a Kilcline free kick, great finish from Benno and a massive assist from Oggy for Micky Adams who would leave City that season and face them in the FA Cup semi final for Leeds.
