Match Preview - Tottenham Hotspur v Coventry City

19/10/2026, 07:27:26 BST

City travel to Spurs tonight looking for their 3rd Premier League victory on the trot! That hasn't happened since January and February 1998 when City went on a 5 game Premier League winning streak.

Read on for more including pressers, team news, past meetings, player links, prediction, playlist & opposition view.

Pressers

Head to Head

I've made a page dedicated to past meetings with some video highlights HERE.

The Head to Head Explorer for Spurs is HERE.

City Team News

SFL has a decision to make regarding formation. Does he go back to the 3-5-1-1 that won at Forest or stick with the 4-4-1-1 that won against Newcastle. He also has a call to make up front, stick with Cherif or bring back Awoniyi for a more direct approach and hold up play. In truth I have no idea what SFL will do but I'll take a punt at going back to the game plan that won at Forest and we could line up as on the left.

What do you think? Head to the LAST Line Up Builder and make your own, you can post straight to the match comments or social media.

The usuals are missing for City - HWWW remains sidelined with a thigh injury, Eccles (ankle), Woolfenden (knee) and Amenda (calf) are also still out. KKH is fit though and raring to go according to SFL.

Tottenham Team News

Spurs are putting in a new pitch for Monday night, maybe they're hoping it will bring more luck than the old one.

Spurs have injury problems and could have done without midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur being suspended following his red card against Manchester United.

Pedro Porro is struggling with a thigh problem, while Xavi Simons, Wilson Odobert and Mykhailo Mudryk are expected to remain sidelined.

There could, however, be some welcome news for De Zerbi. Former Coventry midfielder James Maddison is pushing for a starting place after impressing as a substitute at Old Trafford. It would be his first Premier League start since April 2025.

Dejan Kulusevski is also edging closer to a return after a lengthy absence, although his involvement remains uncertain.

Dominic Solanke, scorer of Tottenham's late equaliser at Manchester United, is expected to lead the attack, with Mohammed Kudus and Savio providing support.

Player Links

Not as many players as you would think have represented both clubs.

Obviously, last season we had Yang Min-Hyeok on loan from Spurs, but he only played four games. Rúben Lameiras played for City between 2015 and 2017, making 69 appearances, having previously played for Spurs between 2010 and 2014, making 31 appearances. Luis Binks played for Spurs at youth level, from U16 to U23, at the start of his career before ending up at City between 2023 and 2025, making 48 appearances.

The most well-known player of recent times is obviously James Maddison, who came up through the youth ranks at City before ending up at Spurs via Norwich and Leicester, where he has been for the last four seasons.

Callum Davenport moved directly to Spurs from City in 2003 after making 86 appearances for City, although he only went on to make one appearance for Spurs.

Going back further, Terry Gibson played for both, as did Alan Brazil. Coincidentally, Alan Brazil moved to City as a makeweight in Terry Gibson's move to Man Utd.

Another youth product, Danny Thomas, was a great full-back, making 110 appearances for City before moving to Spurs in 1983, where he made 109 appearances before injury cruelly cut his career short.

Going back even further, Peter Murphy played for City between 1946 and 1950 before moving to Spurs. He left Spurs after two seasons for Birmingham, where he played in the 1956 FA Cup Final, famously colliding with Bert Trautmann, who broke his neck but played on. Great footage here!

Other players who have played for both include Robbie Keane, Rohan Ricketts, Tim Sherwood, Jimmy Holmes, Terry Yorath, Steve Sedgley and Johnnie Jackson.

LAST Prediction

I think City could well get something tonight. Spurs are obviously bottom of the table but gained a point at Manure last time out and spent £300 million in the summer, so they aren't exactly mugs. If City can frustrate Spurs, get a twitchy crowd on their backs and take a chance then who knows. Spurs have a terrible home record, winning only 9 home games over the last 2 seasons, losing 22 since the start of 24/25

LAST Prediction : Spurs 0 City 1
Huwligan* Prediction: 0-2
ChatGTP Prediction : Spurs 1 City 2 : "I think Spurs will have more possession, but their lack of cutting edge and the pressure of playing at home could work in City's favour. If Coventry can stay organised, frustrate Spurs and exploit the space on the counterattack, there's every chance of another upset."

* "Huwligan" is Huw, 7 1/2 year old son of Greg "Sweet of the Match" from LAST 1.0. More to come from him, believe me!
