*sigh*

City exit the Carabao Cup and any hope they had of a confidence booster was dented by 2 poorly conceded corners.

The LAST Word

It was hoped that the distraction of a cup game would bring some relief to City, give benched players a chance to stake a claim and get the season up and running. Unfortunately the raft of changes just brought more of the same - poorly conceded goals and a defeat, to Vile of all teams.

Only Amenda and Thomas remained from the line up against Brighton and Amenda only lasted 12 minutes before going off with a calf injury, a nasty looking one at that. The rest of the team was mostly made up of the bench from the last couple of games. Vile made 7 changes to their starting line up too.

Vile started brightly and took the lead on 7 minutes. Tammy Abraham got in behind Thomas, who had no idea where he was and he calmly slotted the ball past Bentley. Not the start City wanted or needed. Amenda was then replaced by Pinnock in another piece of bad news for SFL.

City came back into the game and won a free kick outside the area. Up steps Viktor Torp, perhaps the sole bright spot of the evening and he planted the ball in the top right with one of his trademark free kicks. The Villa keeper Bizot didn't even move.

That's as good as it got for City and they went into half time 2-1 down after the first poor piece of defending from a corner.

For some reason at the corner, Pinnock (2) has 2 players to pick up. All that happens here is the corner comes in, Barkley (6) jogs forward 2 metres, is completely on his own and has a free header in the 6 yard box to put Vile in the lead. Again, this is just so basic and I hate to use the term, schoolboy stuff.

City were again the architects of their own downfall on 59 minutes when Vile finished the game off from another corner.

Same thing, 2 Villa players, one of them Barkley (6) again in the 6 yard box, this time its Lati with them. Mfuni is tussling with Abrahams in the middle of the picture.

By the time the ball comes in Barkley (6) has now moved to the edge of the 6 yard box, no one follows and he flicks the ball on. Mfuni has lost his tussle with Abrahams (18) who has now got in front of him and slots home. It's that easy.

City have got to sort this out and sort it out quick. Start by cutting out basic errors and grind some 0-0s out. Until they do that they will continue to lose games in the manner that they are doing. The only positives I can get out of this is that some new players had a debut and a run out and Torp looks like he needs to start playing a bigger role in the first team. Something at Forest before the long international break will make a world of difference compared to heading into October with 0 league points and no league goals.
