The LAST Word

"Our season won't be defined by coming to places like this and getting beaten" said SFL and of course he is right. Opta have us down for having the toughest start of anyone in the Premier League and no one needs to be pressing any panic buttons yet. We just played the best club side in the country, maybe Europe, possibly the world. That's no exaggeration, at times, particularly from minutes 5 to 40, City could not get anywhere near Arsenal. If you've played any level of football you will know what it's like to come up against a team who passes and moves with ease. You can try and get tighter to people but sometimes players and understanding between team mates is so good that its impossible, one look the wrong way and the player you are supposed to be tracking is gone.

To be fair to City, it was a bad start. 2-0 down in 23 minutes and we probably all feared the worst. City had started quite brightly but contributed to their own downfall as Arsenal got into their stride. MVE gave the ball away on the touchline and 2 seconds later the ball is in the back of our net. Thats the difference. The second goal just came from Declan Rice driving forward, no City player being able to get near him, a couple of one-twos, the ball coming across goal, Rushworth not quite being able to get a full hand on it and it falling to Saka. The game was done with the 3rd goal at the start of the second half. Arse broke down the right, a couple of passes to players in space, an overlap and a fortunate scuff shot from Ødegaard beating Rushworth at the near post.

To City's credit they didn't fold, plenty of teams going to the Emirates will. Gus Hamer played Arsenal twice in Sheff Utd's PL season and conceded 11 goals. City had a bit more possession second half and could have sneaked a consolation goal when Rudoni fluffed a header after a great cross from Torp. Other plus points were Thomas, Amenda and JDS did well and Yirenkyi was full of energy (but he's going to get a lot of yellow cards!). Torp didn't look out of place at all and will have given SFL something to think about and Awonyi gives us a more physical presence up front thatn Simms, I;'d be surprised if he didn't start against Hull.

The most important thing from this game was that we didn't get hammered by 5 or 6. The hardest game of the season is now out of the way, Man City lost by the same scoreline in the Community Shield at a neutral Wembley last week.

Onwards and upwards.
